He arrived in Australia about 1912. His parents address was 41 Church Terrace, Higher Walton, Preston, Lancashire, England. It is probable that he was working in Camden at the time of enlistment, his occupation was motor driver. His brother George gave the name of Miss Amy Butler of Elizabeth Street Camden as a person from whom further information could be sought. James enlisted at Camden in December 1915 and served in the 45th Battalion A.I.F. He departed Sydney on the 'Star of Victoria' 30 March 1916. He was wounded in action at Pozieres on the 6th August 1916. He had gunshot wounds to the face, head and rear left shoulder. Private James Coleman CLARKE died of wounds at Boulogne in France on 12 August 1916 age 30. |
